Re: Janus Films
Thank you. I suspected as much but ordered the Pathe edition anyhow a few days ago. I'll hold onto the Criterion DVD for the extras.

Hopefully this means there will be some movement on the 4k restoration of Les Enfants Terrible

Re: Janus Films
Exciting to see this finally added to the site after playing with the Janus logo for about two years now on streaming sites. I know I'm probably alone here, but this is Assayas' most effective attempt at straight drama, outside of genre. I once had more to say here

Re: Janus Films
Interesting that Man From London is available in 35mm. I wonder if they acquired IFC’s prints

Re: Janus Films
They did. They played those prints at the recent retro in Los Angeles and were apparently credited to Janus. I was disappointed as Man from London was the one Tarr film in the series they didn't give an encore presentation with and remains the one Tarr film I've never seen.

Re: Janus Films
I missed it, too. Brain Dead screened it last year as well, but I think I ended up seeing something else for some reason. Difficult decisions must be made with repertory screenings sometimes! The Elegant Dandy Fop wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 3:04 pmThey did. Re: Janus Films
I really hope so, too - A Man From London only has a DVD release and it's not very high quality. It seems like though that the Hungarian Film Institute didn't restore this one yet. I hope Janus will restore it with Tarr and release it soon.FrauBlucher wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2024 7:05 pmFamily Nest has also been added. I hope there is A Man From London bluray release

Re: Janus Films
With Werckmeister Harmonies including Family Nest as a supplement, and Man From London being the only 'mature' Tarr film without a Blu-ray, I would be surprised if the inevitable disc of Man From London didn't include another early film. I would suspect The Outsider is the film in question; the rest of Tarr's small filmography is another matter, but I suspect The Prefab People and Almanac of Fall could get individual releases with the various other films included as supplements.

Re: Janus Films
The Prefab People and Almanac of Fall have not been restored by the Hungarian Film Institute and I doubt that it would worth it for anyone else independently. These are lesser known and more time- and location- specific films as the Tarr-Krasznahorkai collaborations, so I'd think the market potential is much smaller. A Man From London/Outsider disc sounds much more likely to me.What A Disgrace wrote: ↑Sun Mar 24, 2024 1:00 pmWith Werckmeister Harmonies including Family Nest as a supplement, and Man From London being the only 'mature' Tarr film without a Blu-ray, I would be surprised if the inevitable disc of Man From London didn't include another early film. Re: Janus Films
The caveat is that they have not updated the restored film list since 2022, so whatever I said above might be obsolete.balintantal wrote: ↑Sun Mar 24, 2024 7:44 pmThe Prefab People and Almanac of Fall have not been restored by the Hungarian Film Institute and I doubt that it would worth it for anyone else independently. I hope his MacBeth has a chance at being a supplement on any future Tarr releases

Interesting glitch(?) Él shows up on the Luis Buñuel page, but when you follow the link it leads to 404 page.

Re: Janus Films
God I would hope that Janus does a restoration of it. I wonder if they are planning a Buñuel in Mexico series, since they already have a restoration from 2019 for Los Olvidados ready to go.Hogfather wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 4:14 pmInteresting glitch(?)
