C'mon C'mon (Mike Mills, 2021)
Joaquin Phoenix's next film will probably be a Mike Mills-directed drama for A24, will start shooting this fall if a deal goes through

Re: New Films in Production, v.2
Well this has immediately become my most anticipated release for the foreseeable future. To be fair, anything Mills had on the docket would be, but what a pairing!Never Cursed wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2019 2:19 pmJoaquin Phoenix's next film will probably be a Mike Mills-directed drama for A24, will start shooting this fall if a deal goes through

Re: Untitled Joaquin Phoenix Film (Mike Mills, 2020)
Sounds really interesting, with some familiar interests and also some different exploration from Mills' other work. Also, was Phoenix's name submitted in the official casting call report confirming his involvement? Beyond excited for this.

So I guess this is an autobiography about Mills' time shooting Paperboys.

Now titled C’mon C’mon
Phoenix will play a documentary filmmaker whose latest project involves gifted children, while the story will find him bonding with his smart-yet-sensitive nephew, whose father struggles with bipolar disorder and is in the grips of a manic episode

20th Century Women's working title was Oh Wow, Oh Wow, Oh Wow (after Steve Jobs' final words), so this has precedent.

Robbie Ryan is shooting this (not Mills himself, as Wikipedia had me believing for awhile).

This is scheduled for an American release on May 29 and will premiere at Berlin's European Film Market. Also, WETA is doing visual effects for the film, which strikes me as a bit odd
EDIT: I misread the article, it's the David Lowery film scheduled for May 29 and working with WETA, not this

Re: C'mon C'mon (Mike Mills, 2020)
This might explain it:
Variety wrote:"It's basically like 20th Century Women in terms of tone and the theme of those elusive emotional connections we all seek with our family," said Mills, offering exclusive insight into his new project. "Except this time with lasers and mutants."

Re: C'mon C'mon (Mike Mills, 2020)
I was taken aback by the WETA thing until I realized that that's referring to the other A24 production mentioned in the article, David Lowery's Green Knight. That probably requires more extensive special effects than this does.Never Cursed wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 5:40 pmThis is scheduled for an American release on May 29 and will premiere at Berlin's European Film Market. Apparently the script indicates this was intended to be shot in black and white, though I don’t think we’ve heard any confirmation that it is

According to somebody who worked on the film, it's on track for a November release date this year. And yes, it is shot in black-and-white.

Shot in black and white or presented in black and white? I think Lighthouse is the only recent film natively shot in black and white.
All other recent oscar nominees were shot in color and converted to black and white in post-production including films Roma, White Ribbon, Nebraska, Ida, Cold War and The Artist.
