Prey sounds interesting, but I’ve seen Inseminoid, and if it was anything to go by, that experience felt like enough Norman J Warren for one lifetime.

Prey is a bit slow in comparison even to Inseminoid, but does have that one good line to the cannibalistic alien (male) character from the (butch lesbian) member of the couple whose house he ends up lodging in: "I expect you'll want sugar in your tea, all you men do!"

Sugar in tea, now that’s just weird.

I must admit that I am curious as to how the incredibly long slow motion threesome struggling in the muddy pond sequence from Prey would look in HD! There's a small piece of it in the Vinegar Syndrome trailer!
Is looks pin sharp and sparkling!

I really admire Prey, such a strange film, which succeeds more as a blackly horrific chamber drama than a work of SF horror. Although rough hewn it’s genuinely grubby and daring, and I feel Warren makes an asset of the restricted setting and minimal cast.

It, and also Terror, are the kind of film I wanted th outstanding BFI Flipside to release.

I kept thinking "I'm not sure I should buy this one", and reading your exchange kept me in this hesitation, but it turns out I DID order it during this sale, so here I go to try it out.

I enjoyed Inseminoid far more than I expected to. I recall liking it for its camp and perverse elements - and its artific - that foregrounded what had been in the subtext of Alien.

I’d be chuffed if Vinegar Syndrome or someone as good would deliver Inseminoid.

not sure if everyone is aware, but vinegar syndrome has put out a beautiful blurray copy of the 1985 film buddies- the first film to deal with the aids pandemic.

i do not believe there was ever an official vhs print of this film made and the only way to see it besides it's first limited release, was a tv copy that was pretty impossible to get.

now if only these guys can get a camera negative of in love

Surprising that VS didn't release Buddies through its (non-exploitation) Etiquette Pictures label. Wonder if they've dropped that.

They never responded when I asked them online but I would assume its defunct now considering Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song was supposed to come out on the Etiquette label.

From the June 18 Vinegar Syndrome email newsletter:
“Then, pulling from the handful of holdovers from our short-lived Etiquette line, Arthur Bressan Jr's meditation on dying, BUDDIES, makes its home video debut. This acclaimed indie was not only the first narrative feature about AIDS, but remains one of the most powerful.”

September titles have leaked via DiabolikDVD:
  • Memories Within Miss Aggie (apparently a pornographic film, but it doesn't look that way)
  • The House on Tombstone Hill (also known as Dead Dudes in the House)
  • Body Melt
  • ...plus some DVD-exclusive adult titles

The Killing Kind, by the great Curtis Harrington will be an essential release.

And this is from the September e-mail newsletter teasing upcoming November titles:
Vinegar Syndrome wrote:As with last year, we‘re going to have two secret surprise Blu-ray titles which won‘t be announced until the early morning of our Black Friday sale, along with three ’regular‘ Blu-ray releases. The headliner, which will be revealed at the end of this month (probably), is an 80s slasher with quite a bit of ’name recognition‘ that, for reasons unknown, has never been out uncut in the states. But we‘ve got that covered…and as for the other two ’secret‘ titles…? Both top shelf early 80s kill-fests, one of which was shot in the summer of 79, but both of which play much more like older films.

Vinegar Syndrome has achieved God Status in fan milking, is offering five different slipcovers for... Cutting Class, the awful late eighties slasher entry notable for an early Brad Pitt role and little else. I think I spent $4 for the DVD years ago and I def overpaid

EDIT: Here's my writeup from the Horror List Project
Cutting Class (Rospo Pallenberg 1989) Bottom of the barrel VHS fodder that signified another cough from the dying slasher genre. Martin Mull cashes a paycheck as the comic relief and of course Brad Pitt's subsequent fame is the only reason anyone still knows this exists at all. There is perhaps some teachable value in how poorly the filmmakers use red herrings and POVs in ways that counteract their effectiveness as misdirections.

I like slipcovers, but five? Where do you even keep them?

It would be better if each purchase was for a random slipcover like baseball cards

Great news, everybody!
Vinegar Syndrome wrote:It's worth mentioning that any CUTTING CLASS slips left over after our Black Friday sale will be shredded (if there are any left to shred); this is a 100% Black Friday sale exclusive and no slipcover editions will be sold at conventions or by any other retailer.

I certainly hope there's a video of the VS guy cackling maniacally as he feeds the slipcovers into the woodchipper.

I admire your optimism in thinking there surely couldn't be that many suckers out there for it to sell out, but I suspect no shredding will be required

They're giving it the Liquid Sky pre-order treatment, so yeah, they probably think it's going to sell very well.
