Unless they announce more titles, this might be just one-off deal.

Rumor going around is that Shout/Scream have the Miramax Halloweens. We'll find out tomorrow.

In response to years of fan feedback, the first Halloween will now also include the original mono audio track and the set will include both versions of the original Halloween: the original Blu-ray release and the recently remastered 35th Anniversary version with the mono track added back in.
This is why people who are part of the fan community should be the ones involved in such releases. The studios simply cannot be relied upon (Performance, Get Carter et al).

The old Blu-ray release is a bit redundant compared to the newer one, but there was some moaning about the new colour timing so I guess that's why they're including it anyway.

Did Julie Christie or Yo La Tengo have anything to do with the Halloween movies?

So this is the 3rd BD release of Halloween 1, right? Now with the 2 previous releases, plus the TV cut. With the number of times Anchor Bay has put out Halloween on DVD and Blu-ray, I'm skeptical to think that this will be really "definitive".

I want that so badly but the price tag scares me. No, there's no pun intended.

This is sold out on the Shout Factory website, anyone have an idea where to find a copy through the "other online retailers" that they mention?

Here is the Amazon listing. The lithograph was only available through Shout, but the set should assumedly be otherwise identical.

So is this the first time we'll get the original mono with restored color timing?

I think so. I know that one of the scream factory guys was really upset about Anchor Bay's last Blu-ray not having the original mono, so hopefully he was able to ensure that it is really included this time.

I'm impressed, I'm curious if indeed Rob Zombie's theatrical cuts for both films will be included though apparently not. I have to ask, why bother putting the original film three times on the box set? It's just that three separate discs for a single film is overkill especially since the TV scenes are a bonus feature anyway.

I'm not complaining about the rest, I'm satisfied with these especially since I pre-ordered the entire box set recently. Though there is still me worrying about the image quality.

What about Disc 1 and Disc 2? Why is the 1978 film on 2 different discs? Doesn't seem to be an alternate cut.

I think that Disc 2 is the first Halloween Blu-ray that Anchor Bay released and I don't know if they are throwing it in there to get rid of old stock or if it is the only way they can include the old Criterion commentary.

It's apparently the old Blu-Ray from 2007, it just happens to have the old Criterion commentary and that 90 minute featurette A Cut Above The Rest. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the only way they could include both of those. At least that I get. What I don't disc is why the bonus disc has an extended cut of the film with the TV scenes edited in but in standard definition despite the fact that the TV scenes are a bonus feature. Who the hell even wants that? Especially since the scenes that in standard definition are undoubtedly going to stick out like a sore thumb.

Anchor Bay's old two-DVD limited edition included the film with the TV scenes added in and, after that sold out, there was demand for that extended version, so Anchor Bay released it by itself
Image

Since there was enough demand for a DVD release, I think not including on the Blu-ray set would have upset a number of fans.

I get fan demand but I just don't see the point man, you have the TV scenes as a bonus feature, they're going to see those. And not to mention the film should at least be taken for what it is originally rather than just toss in what were essentially after thoughts.

Pretty sure another major rationale for including the 2007 disc of the first film is the differing colour timing - some fans didn't care for the cooler grading on the most recent disc, even though it was approved by Dean Cundey. If Shout/Anchor Bay had left out one, they would have had fans of the other baying for blood.

I didn't think the 2007 disc had its fans. Most of the time, all I heard was "WTH is wrong with this disc" or "The colors are too bright," something to that effect. Oh well, whatever works for fans I guess.

Anyway, there's a bit of an update on the special features on the deluxe edition. The updates are in red in this link for the record. There's even a sample of the Blu-Ray quality from the Producer's Cut. It doesn't look too bad, it actually looks like it was filmed on celluloid and not straight from a VHS copy.

It's been mentioned by Scream Factory that only the Unrated cuts will be included, due to separate rights or something like that.

The TV cut is actually fairly interesting to watch with the inclusion of the additional footage, that was shot at the same time as part II if memory serves.
While I could live with it remaining as just extra footage, is does remain a somewhat worthwhile feature.
Including Carpenter's first film twice really is just Anchor Bay/Shout including the original discs in this package (additional audio tracks aside), as seems to be the case for part's 2 through 5 and the Rob Zombie films. Disc 15 features a number of older DVD extras that were dropped off the subsequent BD editions. Including the original Halloween BD is both a way to easily include the earlier colour timing, as mentioned above, as well as include the other extras that were left off the 35th anniversary release. Most of the additional extra's mentioned at the above link are really just an update of the press release to include extras that were mistakenly omitted, though the actual NEW additions look to be really nice inclusions.
Though there is still me worrying about the image quality.
Going through the reviews at DVD-Basen should likely give you the answer for most of the discs, not counting parts 6 & 7. It'd be nice if Halloween 4,5 and 8 were granted new transfers but given the rest of the box set, it doesn't seem entirely likely. While the set's mostly a compilation of what's come before, it's finally given me an excuse to give in to my thoughts above buying 4 & 5, and it'll be great to see the producer's cut of 6. Despite the issues with the films from part 4 onwards, there's still something about Michael Myers and the Halloween films that keep them mysteriously compelling, even when they're occasionally quite obviously awful. Looking forward to it.

Well, it's the video quality of Halloween 6-8 that worries me specifically. As, well, they were with Echo Bridge. And with the exception of Godzilla vs. Biollante, they're not exactly trustworthy with film, you know.

The Canadian Blu-ray release of 6-8 was in the correct aspect ratio unlike the Echo Bridge titles, so there are accurate masters out there for Shout to use

Alliance Atlantis? Well, if they can get the picture quality right for Ginger Snaps then hopefully they'll use those masters instead of Echo Bridge's. That does me give some hope.
