When did I make a value judgment about Les Misérables in that post?swo17 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 6:16 pmMaybe this is just me, but complaining that the (by all accounts excellent) French film you haven't seen was chosen over the one you have doesn't seem too far removed from those people who watch 5 movies a year and are perplexed that Endgame wasn't nominated for BP

What if we try to infuse our grumblings with just enough over-the-top bitterness to make it seem good-natured and mostly joking?

I'd bet swo is referring more to my repeated griping about it than your reasonable dissection of its Oscar hopesmfunk9786 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 6:16 pmWhen did I make a value judgment about Les Misérables in that post?swo17 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 6:16 pmMaybe this is just me, but complaining that the (by all accounts excellent) French film you haven't seen was chosen over the one you have doesn't seem too far removed from those people who watch 5 movies a year and are perplexed that Endgame wasn't nominated for BP

I mostly just think it's funny that some people think Endgame was snubbed and wanted to shoehorn that into a post somewhere

Re: Dynamic Consensus Lists
It would have lost to Parasite anyway, so yeah, it's not on my mind. I remember there being some barb at someone (you?) that no one saw the film in time or something a few weeks ago, but my only dog in that fight was to correct the timelineDarkImbecile wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 6:18 pmI'd bet swo is referring more to my repeated griping about it than your reasonable dissection of its Oscar hopesmfunk9786 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 6:16 pmWhen did I make a value judgment about Les Misérables in that post?swo17 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 6:16 pmMaybe this is just me, but complaining that the (by all accounts excellent) French film you haven't seen was chosen over the one you have doesn't seem too far removed from those people who watch 5 movies a year and are perplexed that Endgame wasn't nominated for BP

Re: Dynamic Consensus Lists
FYI, I think I'll wait until Oscar night to update the first post of this thread. This will be the year-end update, at which time I will be doing the following:
1. No longer counting 2019 lists of less than 10, and only partially counting lists of 10 that haven't been updated recently. If you haven't edited your list since at least the last Friday of October and you want it to count as is, then you will need to add a note to your post that indicates this. Lists that I stop counting at year-end can be counted again later if they're subsequently edited to constitute a qualifying top 10.
2. Deleting empty place-holder posts in the 2019 thread that were never updated. These people are free to contribute a list at some point in the future, but they will lose their spot earlier on in the thread.
3. "Freezing" the results for years 2019 and prior (i.e. any changes during 2020 will be shown as changes from that point in time).

Re: Dynamic Consensus Lists
Thinking I'm going to take this month off and probably the next one as well for doing updates seeing as how a) hardly any movies are coming out right now, b) I don't necessarily want to encourage anyone to go out and watch the movies that are coming out, and c) I'm plenty busy with the decade list transition among other things at the moment. If anyone is both a) rich and b) dependent on my monthly updates, I could be open to reconsidering for the right price

Re: Dynamic Consensus Lists
Just out of curiosity, roughly how much have updates to lists dropped from the pandemic? (A rough ratio or ballpark percentage would be fine.)swo17 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 06, 2020 5:16 amThinking I'm going to take this month off and probably the next one as well for doing updates seeing as how a) hardly any movies are coming out right now, b) I don't necessarily want to encourage anyone to go out and watch the movies that are coming out, and c) I'm plenty busy with the decade list transition among other things at the moment. Re: Dynamic Consensus Lists
There are somewhat less updates (I dunno, 25% less?) but it still takes me several hours to update each month
