88 Films leaked on Facebook that Arrow is releasing The 36th Chamber of Shaolin.
Not really a leak since Arrow sent out postcards of '36th Chamber' over a year ago.

There is a user on the blu forums saying that Arrow has the rights to 26 Shaw Bros films, and that they are either releasing them in one or two boxsets.

I hope it's two spread out over a few months, I hate to imagine how much the 26 box-set would cost.

I wonder if the "Big Box" in December from Fran Simeoni's initial 2021 schedule was this Shaw Brothers boxset and that changed to the 2 "CC Box"es (Celestial Collections as they own the Shaw Brothers library)?

Except the name of the company is Celestial Pictures, not Celestial Collections. I would not be surprised if “CC” stood for Chang Cheh, though. Even a 26-film box set would only skim the best or most famous of his work for Shaw Brothers, and he seems right up Arrow’s alley.

EDIT: Oh, I see this has already been suggested upthread.

It’s possible there are multiple Shaw releases scheduled, not just two box sets. Might the “8D” from the handwritten notes be 8 Diagram Pole Fighter?

Yes, I meant it as a collection of titles licensed from Celestial. At least one of the boxsets on the first schedule was not listed under the final title, but as its theme.

Chang Cheh is a fascinating filmmaker. I recently rewatched his film The Angry Guest, where he casts himself as a Yakuza cheif who doesn't half look like Barry Humphries in Shock Treatment!

Diabolik DVD teased a big announcement tomorrow. Almost certain to be Arrow's Shaw box (and it sounds like they opted for a single box set instead of 2 smaller sets)

…and 88 Films have an SB-related announcement coming on Saturday. Guess it’ll be a good weekend for those that like their films.

Apparently 88 Films will be announcing the releases for Human Lantern, The Chinese Boxer, Flag of Iron, Disciples of Shaolin, and Monkey Kung-fu.

Pretty neat, especially with new restorations, but it looks like another big box format that won't fit anywhere.

Pretty weird for 36th Chamber to not be in this after being the first title teased so long ago - maybe the second set will have the entire seeies of those or it’ll be getting a standalone seeing as its so high profile relative to most of these.

I wonder if and how this set will be broken up (as they did with the Gamera) when the limited edition sells out, or if they just release the films individually. Heroes of the East is a favorite of mine and I also want to get at least some of the others but there is no way I can afford this set anytime soon.

Found at the bottom of the listing on Arrow's website:

Rumor is the "AND MORE!" are solo releases of 8-Diagram Pole Fighter and Come Drink With Me in the US/Can (88 Films has these two in the UK)

I picked it up for fractionally under £100, which I think is a bit of a bargain for twelve films given all the work that's obviously gone into this project.

Oh I am not complaining about the price; I just literally can't afford it this year. I've not had a job for the best part of two and a half years since we moved to the US and the titles I still have to get from each major US and UK boutique label literally go into the dozens. I am appreciative of Arrow's efforts to release the Shaws but this set could well be sold out by the time I can get it.

Which is why you buy two copies and then list the second for twice what you paid for it

Couldn't pass this up, but luckily I had a bunch of points from Arrow, which helped reduce the price a bit. The box has the Lau Kar Leung films––Challenge of the Masters, Executioners from Shaolin, Heroes of the East and Dirty Ho––which aren't on blu-ray prior (except for Heroes of the East, which was released in Japan). Those films are the best reason to get this set.

I wonder if Martial Club might be in volume 2? That and Challenge of the Masters are kind of an interesting pair together, and both pretty fabulous movies.

Mighty Peking Man (aka Goliathon) is of course the Shaw Brothers' take on King Kong, which unfortunately had the misfortune of coming out the year after the 1976 US remake bored everyone with the idea of giant apes running rampage.

Might I ask where you found it for that price...?

Arrow website with points. Although that won’t work if you’ve never bought anything from them before.

As someone who’s only seen 36th Chamber (and remembers very little), how do these films compare to other martial arts/violent movies? Or to ask more broadly, what makes them special?
