At first glance I thought that was a Wall-E exclusive

Best DVD and Blu-Ray Covers...ever!

#52 Post by mfunk9786 » Thu Feb 04, 2010 4:49 pm

It's time for a sunny and positive thread where you can showcase cover art that's particularly well done.

However, if I could stifle the thread with rules, it would probably be redundant to post Criterion or MoC covers since each have their own dedicated threads here and here.

Anyway, it might be anticlimactic, but this is the cover that made me go looking for a pre-existing Best Cover Art thread:

I don't get it. Is that tree like the star of the movie or something?

Awful cover. Thread is a let down.

It's time for a break from the negativity around here
Laughing at the banal and mediocre, especially when those responsible have the resources to know better (and to know they know better), isn't "negativity".

This is the best of recent covers that I've seen, from the normally terrible BBC. That's because the design and artwork is by the writer and painter, John Byrne. It's also one of the best British TV series ever made.

Well, this cover has been amusing me lately (I know nothing about the film).

Cover art appreciation lumped in with the packaging geeks.

I tried. Now my post looks insanely out of context. Awesome.

Sorry about that mfunk. We had this thread, which was already called "Cool DVD Packaging and Covers" when I found it, and it seemed silly to also have a thread called "Best DVD Covers Ever," so I merged them. As you can see from this post in 2006, it had really become more about good cover art, and an explicit alternative to the "Worst Covers" thread several years ago.

For the record, and despite appearances to the contrary, this is not the packaging nerd thread. That would be here.

Feel free to edit your post to make it more contextual.

Can this thread be renamed and dedicated to Great Cover Art, and the other be the Packaging Thread?

Yeah, I don't like the title of this thread. And I was the one who started it!

The very same excellent poster art that resulted in my having to suffer through some annoying college fucks being eight-year-olds during the theatrical screening

I really hope that Baader Meinhof Blu-ray doesn't use the same dumb print with burnt-in tiny subtitles.

That poster seems reminescent of the theatrical poster for Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo.

I believe that typeface at the bottom, where it says Coming Soon is actually one of those knockoffs of the type on Saul's Vertigo poster. I tried to find a bigger version, and when I did, it had another typeface down there.

Its at least less of a Bass ripoff than the Clockers poster was.
