Well, looks like the sale will be next week. I don’t think it’s ever come later than the first week of March, so if not, well...

No new release next week though.

Has it ever not coincided with a new release before?

No sale during Black History Month? So its kind of like this...

It’s highly likely that they already planned for March 5th given the Bergman box wasn’t expected to be back in stock til then. Responsible sites like Criterion give their ISP/host advance warning before sales so that their pages don’t crash from the influx. So they’re quite possibly sticking with the date since it’s already been prepared. Of course, this is just a theory

Using the dates that goblinfootballs posted and then going by the Complete Criterion Calendar on the opening page of the forum, here's what has been newly released on the sale day:
2/13/18: Silence of The Lambs, Night of the Living Dead
2/28/17: The Before Trilogy
2/23/16: The Graduate, I Knew Herr Well
3/10/15: The Soft Skin
2/25/14: Breathless, Blue Is The Warmest Color, Tess, King of The Hill
2/26/13: Sansho The Bailiff , Chronicle of A Summer
2/14/12: Three Outlaw Samurai, Tiny Furniture

If the sale is next Tuesday, it would mark the first time in seven years there wasn't some kind of a new release tied to it. However, the fact that the Bergman box is now available certainly makes it irrelevant that there isn't a new release coming on 5 March.

I Knew Herr Well
That's the little known German release. I meant I Knew Her Well, of course.

I think it’s entirely possible they’re waiting all the way until March 19 when Detour is released.

Please, God, let this be true. I am salivating over Detour. I saw it once in college 25 years ago and thought it was just okay. Then I saw the recent restoration and was completely floored by it. Its clear, minimalist visuals create a noir nightmare. And Ann Savage's performance has to be seen to be believed.

I'm just throwing this out there, but what if there isn't a flash sale?

As I just got my $50 credit, so I'm assuming there won't be one.

If there isn't a flash sale, then there isn't a flash sale.

How does one become a "loyal customer"? I have the whole collection and have spent hundreds of dollars on the website, so I'm not sure that's it!

Do you ever buy from other websites? If so... disloyal!

I think the "Loyal Customer" has to do with how many loyalty points you accumulated.

Well, it takes more than 2,300 points then. Anyone going to admit to a higher point total?

Maybe the true test of loyalty is if you get the wacky C tattooed on your person?

Is this new?
The Criterion Collection is required to collect sales tax on orders shipping to Alabama, California, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Washington and Washington D.C.. If sales tax applies to your order, we’ll indicate it during the checkout process.
First Amazon, then Deep Discount, and now Criterion. I guess that's the end of any tax-free BD purchases online.

And I'm spent! Order loaded up last night and placed a few minutes ago. And, yes, the tax was annoying.

Technically if Criterion doesn't charge tax on your order, you're supposed to report it on your annual return as use tax, so you would pay it either way
