Richard E Grant's closet picks.... He's fun
I'm fascinated that he doesn't seem to be paying any attention to whether he's grabbing the DVD version or Blu-Ray version of titles that are in both formats.

That's very often the case in these videos. I always supposed they were, after the video, sorting all these out and making sure they were leaving the building with the right formats, but that for the video itself, they were just grabbing those without caring.

Anyone else unable to add the Mishima Blu-ray to their My Collection page like I am? Really weird glitch that doesn't seem to effect other titles I own.

He's right about The Blob theme song! (I'd never want to listen to Nino Rota on acid, though.)

What a random place to find one of two old guys from the muppets hanging out. I wonder how that happened?

Nathan Lane in the closet.
(Save your breath, he already made the closeted joke)

I really hope he was there also for an interview for a forthcoming release of The Man Who Came to Dinner. He is the only actor I know of that not only performed the titular role of the play the film is based on stage but also contributed to the long overlooked musical version of the play, Sherry.

I really love his outline ideas for a Being There musical! And that TV version of Valley of the Dolls he mentions appears to be his first credit on imdb!

I am usually a big proponent of "closet videos mean nothing, people stop in as part of press tours and stuff" but considering the realities of the pandemic (assuming this was from the past year-plus) it still seems extremely unlikely they're having people come in just for fun. It could of course be for a channel thing (he'd be a fun Adventures in Moviegoing) but something about the matter-of-fact way he mentions the Birdcage makes me wonder if they could be doing something for that (much like 9to5, a movie I think has recently really come into its own as a movie a lot of people love and which does of course have the bona fides of Elaine May and Mike Nichols). It's with MGM and had an earlier release but seems like something one of the labels would have gotten despite that earlier release.

Completely unrelated and weird post, but every time I see a Ribs post with that “dame-moon” avatar, I flash back to the day the Bergman set was announced. Was there even some provisional acknowledgment of or small hullabaloo for Ribs that day? I was a lurker then, but always thought that was a real banner day for the poster who had gone all in on “dämonregissören”. Ribsy shoulda got a free boxset, I says.

I like the idea of referring to the liner notes as "notebooks" now!

(And I hope someone gently gave her the recent big Fellini set instead since she is going through a Fellini phase, though since she is talking a lot about the DVDs here maybe that would not have been possible!)

I just got an email from Criterion saying that they are having a 30% sale until Dec. 20, alongside a $10 gift certificate to the Criterion store.

How do you get this e-mail? Is it only for a select few?

It leads with "Dear Criterion Channel subscriber," so... If you are a subscriber, just wait a few hours. I usually gets these emails a few hours after they're first reported, so I was surprised to see it waiting for me.

It appears that not everyone is getting a $10 gift card. I have two different Criterion accounts, and one got the $10 and one didn't. They were two different, though similar, e-mail messages.
